Local: Residential partners with Koala

May 2024
2MIN READ

Local: Residential is proud to announce a partnership with iconic Australian brand (and fellow B Corp), Koala, to furnish over 100 apartments at our inaugural location.

Koala will outfit the apartments with beds, bedside tables, coffee tables, couches, dining tables, chairs, and entertainment units for tenants excited by the idea of moving in without the hassle of relocating furniture.

And, because no one should miss out on comfort, every other Kensington tenant will get exclusive deals on Koala products.

“Our partnership with Koala is a natural fit.”

Local Co-CEO Matt Berg said the partnership with Koala is a natural fit, grounded in shared values and ethos of being good for people and the planet. “We have shared values and an ethos of being good for people and the planet. This is an exciting B Corp partnership, which will make moving in convenient and seamless for many of our renters once Local: Kensington is complete later this year.”

Every partnership Local makes aims to further our mission of building a sustainable future, so Koala was an easy choice. They partner with 1% for the Planet and WWF, donating to support koalas and their natural habitat. They also use 100% Forest Stewardship Council certified Timber and 100% Responsible Wool for their products.

Koala’s COO, Vicki Slavina, said, “We’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Local: Kensington. This collaboration represents more than just a business partnership; with Local’s commitment to quality and community, combined with our innovative and sustainable furniture solutions, we’re excited to create homes where comfort, style and environmentally conscious living thrive.”

The name ‘koala’ is thought to have come from the Dharug people’s word meaning ‘no water’. In the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples’ language, the land the Kensington apartments stand on, the word for ‘koala’ is Gurrborra.
